Model Shetland PoniesThe Shetland pony is the smallest of Britain's native breeds. This hardy and extremely strong pony is also one of the oldest, having been introduced to the Shetland Islands, it is thought, as early as 8000 BC. As well as being an ideal working pony for the crofters of northern Scotland, the Shetland is today very popular as a training pony for small children - its average height is only 10 hands (40 inches). These model Shetland ponies are made from the same high quality materials as our hobby horses, and stand 20 cm (8") high. They are available either with a simple head collar (see Items 1 & 2) and rug, or with a full set of real leather tack - bridle, saddle with girth strap and felt numnah. And you can complete your pony's stable with our range of delightful accessories! The Laurel Designs Shetland pony is a real favourite with children, and we have many stories of how much loved they are. We also find that, due to their high quality and realism, they are bought in almost equal numbers by adult collectors. (See our Pony Gallery for one such example). |
